About
Hello! I’m the decorator, painter, wallpaper-hanger and chief mess-maker behind Colour Riot. I live in a small terraced house that used to be the colour of porridge. It is now, in no particular order, pink, tomato red, racing green, sunshine yellow and a very specific shade of teal I mixed myself and will never be able to mix again.
Why maximalism?
For years I decorated “for resale”. Grey sofa, white walls, one tasteful plant. I felt nothing. Then I rented a flat with a mustard bathroom I wasn’t allowed to change, and I fell in love with it. Every morning it made me grin. That was the lightbulb moment: a home doesn’t have to impress anyone. It has to make you happy.
Maximalism isn’t about buying more stuff. It’s about being brave with what you love: the colour you actually like, the pattern your nan had, the charity-shop lamp that makes you laugh. More personality, less playing it safe.
What you’ll find here
- Makeovers: whole rooms, start to finish, with the honest before, the real costs and what I’d do differently.
- DIY: step-by-step projects you can do in a weekend, mostly with paint, fabric and a bit of patience.
- No gatekeeping: every paint colour, every shortcut, every mistake. Especially the mistakes.
I write and test every project here myself, usually covered in paint and talking to my cat. If something in your home makes you sigh instead of smile, you’re in the right place. Let’s fix it, loudly. 💥
